The Spanish Wine Club of Hong Kong

Located in the heart of Wan Chai’s business district, close to Times Square and conveniently located on the 22nd floor of Chuangs Enterprises Building with stunning views of the city and Hong Kong Harbour you can find the Spanish Wine Club.

Owned and managed by President, Ray Tang, an avid Spanish wine lover, former resident of Madrid and Mallorca since the age of seventeen and recently having moved back to the city of his birth, The Spanish Wine Club offers lovers of boutique Spanish wines the opportunity to taste and buy wines in his peaceful and tranquil environment.

Opened in 2012, the club boasts as array of boutique wines, some exclusively imported by Mr. Tang and others sourced from some of Hong Kong’s specialist wine importers including Caliu, a company run by Spanish wine lover Gary Wan and House of Fine Wines who supply some fantastic biodynamic Spanish wines.

The club was opened, according to Mr. Tang, to highlight the diversity of non-mainstream Spanish wines and to create an area where members can meet up, taste new wines, meet new people and have a full experience of both Spanish wines and food.

Having lived in Spain so long, Mr. Tang’s ability to cook and provide authentic Spanish tapas-style foods to members and visitors is second to none. I tried his Spanish omelet last Friday night and it was by far the best I have ever had, much better than some of the ‘fine local Spanish restaurants’ in Hong Kong that charge you the earth for it.

As a member, you are entitled to special discounts on both the wine and the hiring of the venue, which is actually great value for money. Party prices include Spanish wines and food along with the use of the venue – but you have to be a member! For more information of membership you can contact CK on info@spanishwineclub.com.hk

The wines on offer at the club include a wide range of Cava, red and white wines alongside some sweet wines and biodynamic wines from regions such as the Ribera Del Duero and Rioja. Last week I tasted a fantastic Gran Reserva 2003 from Rioja and a Malvasia that inspired the story that we will write tomorrow on “underrated grapes: Malvasia”.

The Club is still young and ambitious and is going to expand heavily over the year of 2013 so if you want to be a part of it then head up there or e-mail them about membership. More information can be found on their Facebook page:
