Poho Bazaar – First Time Success

The inaugural Poho Bazaar took place in Sheung Wan in Hong Kong on Saturday with all participants and guests agreeing that it was a resounding success with more that 300 people in attendance through the afternoon and more sliding by in the evening to check out the wines, shows, food and artisanal beers that were there on offer.

Over 25 venues on the street took part with shops selling art, curiosities, clothes, flowers, books, fashion items and more hosting the event and allowing people to browse around the shops throughout the afternoon.

Burgers were flying off the BBQ at Secret Ingredient whilst revelers watched live jazz and live bands alongside street and belly dancers.

David Baudrie, ‘The Wine Guy’ said he was very happy with how the whole event had gone and that all the hard work over the last months to get this organized was well worth it. The weather held out too with threats of rain in the early hours of the morning giving way to a beautiful sunny day in the afternoon.

Wine was sloshed back from Australia, France, Italy, Spain and Argentina whilst people looked through the various art galleries and made purchases on the spot. Artisanal American beers were also on offer for the beer loving public – no there were no cheap nasty lagers!

Adults and kids alike, many walking dogs or just out for an afternoon stroll were swept up in the revelry and, aside from a brief visit by the police (this always happens in Hong Kong when there are people massing for no apparent reason and making more noise than usual in quiet neighbourhoods) the day and late evening went very well.

It was a good barometer for things to come with participants talking about doing the event twice per year, once in this regular spot just before Christmas and again in the summer when the sun is out and people can strip down to shorts and t-shirts and enjoy the good weather with beer and wine.

Look out for more happenings in this up-and-coming neighbourhood and for sure, if there is one taking place in the summer of 2013, Wine Times will be the first place you hear about it!
