Macau Wine and Dine Festival 2013

 

The inaugural Macau Wine and Dine Festival was officially opened last night at the Venetian Hotel and will run for the next three days giving residents of Macau, day trippers and tourists the opportunity to spend an afternoon or two in the sun sipping and tasting some of the best wines and foods Macau has to offer.

The Festival, running concurrently with the Venetian’s Italian themed “Carnevale” has been organized by the Wine Society of Macau and the event was officially opened to much fanfare by the President of the Macau Wine Society, Mr. Filipe Santos.

Speaking to the wealth of VIP’s in attendance Mr. Santos said. “We are committed to organize this event on a yearly basis as it is an opportunity for anyone, from novice to expert to come down to the Venetian and try some of the fine wines available in Macau. It’s going to be a party atmosphere here over the next three days and we hope you all have a great time with some great wines”.

This is the first and largest public wine event ever held in Macau and will run from 2pm to 10pm each day (Friday May 24^th to Sunday May 26^th). It features more than 20 booths serving food and wine from all over the world, as well as a wine school open to both the professionals in the trade and the public.

Vouchers are needed for drinks but entry to the event is free to all. Vouchers, used to exchange for food and drink cost MOP10 each. But it’s more than just drinking, it’s educational too. Speakers include Joao Paulo Martins, Portugal’s most influential wine writer whose audience is over 1 million people, Hong Kong entrepreneur and wine maker Eddie McDougall who will talk about palate mapping and Mabel Lai, Hong Kong wine educator, will talk about high end Portuguese wine.

In all, it looks like a fun day out as what we saw was a great bunch of wines from many of our wine supplying friends over in Macau. Some top-notch Portuguese wine and Pata Negra ham from Vino Veritas, Prosecco 9.5 from Liquid Assets and some nice French wines from Cottage Vineyards and ASC Fine Wines.
